S.Korea Defense Ministry to Expand KAMD in Wake of N. Korea's SLBM Test
S.Korea Defense Ministry announced it will expand the Korean Air and Missile Defense (KAMD) system in the wake of North Korea’s test-firing of a submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM).
On the North’s latest threat, the South Korean military can track the movement of North Korean submarines in near real-time, adding that neutralizing such submarines in advance is also possible if the submarines are regarded to be a threat to the South.
Even if the North fires missiles from submarines, the missiles can be intercepted by Aegis destroyers deployed by the South Korean and U.S. militaries.
But S.Korea may also have to develop a nuclear-powered submarine to respond effectively to this North Korean SLBM
