South Korea's 14th president Kim Young-sam Dies at 88

  

Former President Kim Young-sam, who officially ended decades of military rule in South Korea, passed away on Sunday at the age of 88.

Seoul National University Hospital said that the former president had been admitted and discharged from the hospital several times in recent years for stroke, angina and pneumonia.

  

 

Kim, who served as president from 1993 to 1998, was a staunch supporter of South Korea's pro-democracy movement and outspoken critic of military dictators for decades.

During his road to the presidency, he laid the foundation for a peaceful power transfer in a country that had experienced several military coups.
